What's New in Music

Steve Jobs, the Zune, and Arista, Jive, and J Records are no longer with us. But in their wake, there is a wealth of new music out on a variety of labels to listen to with Apple and (remaining) Microsoft products. While we're on the subject, we might as well talk about some of it.

The Vaccines' "Wetsuit" Video Is a Fun & Quirky Way to Share Music With Fans Through a Series of Pictures

For their "Wetsuit" video, London-based indie band The Vaccines asked fans to submit festival photos taken with the iPhone app Instagram ("a fun & quirky way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures") by using the hashtag #vaccinesvideo. The #result is #above.

Björk Is Over The "Moon"

Björk has always seemed like she's not from this planet, so it makes sense that her latest video finds her among the stars, strumming a harp belt and waving around a space crystal. Or, as the Icelandic pop musician calls it, "a Wednesday."

The Stepkids' Hip-Hop Drug Trip

There's a reason why you ignore those rap mixtape-selling guys on the street, like the one portrayed here by The Daily Show correspondent Wyatt Cenac—because of the risk that you'll wind up on a drugged-out hip-hop bender and find yourself in a pie-eating contest at a hippie barbecue attended by Buckethead and a Juggalo. At least, that's what happens to comedian Kurt Braunohle in this Tom Scharpling-directed video for "Legend In My Own Mind" from Connecticut throwback-soul group The Stepkids' self-titled debut, out now.

Tear gas, police batons, and balaclavas abound in the riotous video for "Burn Alive," from Sacramento hardcore band Trash Talk's new EP, Awake, out October 11.

The New Black Eyed Peas Lineup: will.i.am, Jennifer Lopez, and Mick Jagger

After so many years of rappers rhyming "swagger" with "Mick Jagger," and having a Maroon 5 hit dedicated to him, the Rolling Stones frontman finally decides to get in on the pop action. Jagger, who apparently hates his fans, appears on will.i.am's new single, "Hard," which is effectively a Black Eyed Peas song with Jennifer Lopez doing the Fergie part, reducing the rock icon to the equivalent of throwaway members Taboo and apl.de.ap.

"Hard like geometry! Trigonometry! This is crazy... psychology!" Jagger growls, reciting the inane lyrics that are the hallmark of the Peas' songwriting.

The Morning Clouds Go Corporate

From Dom to Lana Del Rey, there's been a trend toward the use of stock footage in low-budget music videos. But none have done this better than director Richard Karpala with "A Walk Home" by Denver's The Morning Clouds. As the melancholy song plays, a compilation of business video b-roll tells the story of Corporate America—a diverse range of women and men, alone at computers or in group settings, looking pensive and smiling to camera with their arms folded.

Saul Goodman Presents The Black Keys

If you've developed a Bob Odenkirk fix after this year's blistering season of Breaking Bad, you'll appreciate the above ad, which features the Mr. Show star as an archetypal used-car salesman. The "Winnebego Man"-inspired spot is a vehicle (ha) for some good news: Grammy-nominated blues-rockers The Black Keys have a new album called El Camino coming out on December 6.
