Colleges say they're seeing more students on campus with psychiatric illnesses. About 11.6% of college students were diagnosed or treated for anxiety in the last year, and 10.7% were diagnosed or treated for depression, according to a survey of more than 100,000 students at 129 schools conducted by the American College Health Association.
One out of every nine college kids is walking around clinically depressed and/ or anxious. You can probably throw in an equal number who've never been formally diagnosed. And though this story seems to focus on the question of whether kids are just faking it to get out of class, our time would be better spent focusing on the real problem: the fact that our college kids are coping with their mental health issues by abusing "study drugs."
Kids, if you're depressed, seek professional counseling. Or at least get some real fucking drugs. "Study drugs?" Jesus Christ. I am embarrassed on your behalf. Just stick to booze if your connections are that bad.
But preferably, counseling.
