HBO's Luck Has Died Faster Than a Horse on the Set of HBO's Luck

HBO has canceled its racetrack drama "Luck," after news of the series' third on-set horse death in two seasons broke earlier this week.

In a statement released this afternoon, the network denied allegations that the animal fatalities were the result of unsafe working conditions, stating:

"Recent assertions of lax attitudes or negligence could not be further from the truth."

Ultimately, they chalked the whole fiasco up to bad luck.

"While we maintained the highest safety standards possible accidents unfortunately happen and it is impossible to guarantee they won't in the future."

The show, which found favor with critics, had been performing poorly, even by premium cable standards, prior to today's cancellation. Recent episodes struggled to reach 500,000 viewers.

The season one (and now series) finale will air Sunday, March 25.

After that, if you want to see horses die, you'll have to do it in your dreams.
