After her canine companion was run over by a car on Hacienda Boulevard in La Puente, California, a 2-year-old black Lab braved oncoming traffic and other hazards to stay by their side.
Officials with the Department of Animal Care and Control for Los Angeles County responded to reports Wednesday morning of two dogs, one motionless, spotted in the middle of Hacienda Boulevard in the 1200 block north of Fairgrove Avenue.
Upon arrival it was determined that one of the dogs had died after suffering extensive head trauma. The other dog, who refused to leave her friend's side, appeared unharmed. Traffic cones had been placed near the animals to alert motorists.
Grace, as she has since been named by her DACC caretakers, was taken to a local animal shelter, where "the staff just showered her with admiration and love," according to DACC spokesman Aaron Reyes.
She has yet to be claimed, and has no tag or microchip, so the process has begun to find Grace a new home. If you are interested in adopting Grace, you are cordially invited to contact the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center at (626) 962-3577. Her impound number is A4416170.
