Former Spice Girl and longtime car passenger Victoria Beckham is trying her hand at a new pursuit: luxury car design.
The results are predictably ludicrous.
The Beckham-designed special edition Range Rover Evoque was revealed Sunday night at an auto show in Beijing. The SUVs will retail for $129,000, twice the price of the standard model. Only 200 will be made, lest the universe implode from the collective weight of too much luxury. The cars will run on the blood of virgins and give off exhaust made of paupers' dreams.
"I did a lot of research and not just with cars, old and new, but boats, planes, movie stars, different locations."
She then clarified that, actually, the inspiration was just whatever she kind of felt like doing, provided that whatever she kind of felt like doing also felt "real." Real-ness: a must.
"It would be hard to pinpoint exactly where the inspiration came from. It's just what I like, that's the bottom line. I don't try to be too technical about it ... It's what feels real to me."
Based on descriptions of the limited edition Range Rover, here are some of the things that feel real to Victoria Beckham:
- a grille featuring rose gold accents, inspired by a watch she wore one time
- "tongue in cheek" interior stitching
- matte black paint
- a hand-sewn leather wallet to hold the owner's manual
- mohair floormats
Beckham reports she is pleased with the final outcome, noting that she "stayed very true to [her]self" throughout the process.
