Our Long National Nightmare is Over: Dog the Bounty Hunter Has Been CanceledS

A&E has decided not to renew its signature docu-reality series Dog the Bounty Hunter, canceling the show after eight seasons on the air.

Spun off from an episode of Take This Job, Dog followed bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman and his family members as they tracked down wanted fugitives, mostly in Hawaii.

Despite playing a major role in A&E's transition to its current programming model, execs decided to end the series in the midst of negotiations, citing "creative differences."

In 2007, A&E temporarily removed Dog from its lineup following Chapman's use of a racial slur. In a recorded phone conversation leaked to National Enquirer by Chapman's son Tucker, the former makes repeated use of the N-word while berating the latter for dating a black girl.

Dog resumed production the following year.
