Idaho Paper Picks Fight with Nickelback, Prints Scathingly Sincere Concert Preview

Concert previews in local papers generally consist of boilerplate platitudes and matter-of-fact specifics about the show in question.

But a recent preview in the Boise Weekly for Nickelback's upcoming Idaho Center tour stop eschewed convention in favor of refreshing honesty.

Penned by Josh Gross — a writer who "infuses chutzpah into all he endeavors despite ardent detractors" — the preview is replete with resplendent witticisms that call into question the mental faculties of anyone willing to part with four-and-a-half hard-earned sawbucks for the satisfaction of seeing the Canadian jock rockers perform what is essentially the same song over and over for 90 minutes.

"You can spend $45 to go see Nickelback this week," Gross begins. "Or you could buy 45 hammers from the dollar store, hang them from the ceiling at eye level and spend an evening banging the demons out of your dome."

Ouch.

Unsurprisingly, Gross's magnum oh-snap-us resonated with many music fans, and a scan of the printed piece was shared many times on Facebook and other social networks. Responding to his new-found Internet fame, Gross tweeted: "I'm unclear why my @Nickelback piece was controversial, but there will be a post @BoiseWeekly later with some of the bizarre responses."

A preview of the post to come can be found on the Nickelback Facebook fan page, where Nickelheads are rushing to defend the band's honor.

Says one: "If you hate Nickelback then you like Justin Biber."

Case closed.
