Internet Rediscovers TV Columnist's Pulitzer-Worthy Synopsis of The Wizard of Oz

TV columnist Rick Polito has made a living out of penning joke blurbs for TV shows and movies — first for the Marin Independent Journal and now for PacificSun — but it's one one-liner in particular that will undoubtedly be his legacy: A 1998 synopsis for The Wizard of Oz.

Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first person she meets and then teams up with three strangers to kill again.

"That line is going to follow me to the grave," Polito told Jim Romenesko. "It was just on Leno, it was a clue in a crossword puzzle, it showed up in Playboy, and people use it as their email sigs."

A scan of the synopsis has been making its way around the web since being dubbed "The Best Film Synopsis Ever" by Reddit.

The image attributes the summary to the late Lee Winfrey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, but it's definitely a signature Polito. "Someday I'm going to walk down the street and see it on a T-shirt and punch the person who's wearing it," he said.

So if you were thinking of doing that, I would hold off.
