Only a few hours before suspected shooter Adam Lanza began his attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, a 36-year-old man went on a similar rampage in China's Henan province. Using a kitchen knife, a farmer that police have identified as Min Yingjun stabbed 22 children and one adult just before 8:00 in the morning yesterday.
No deaths have been reported and the man was taken into police custody. According to the AP,
China has seen more than a half-dozen school attacks in less than three years, though the death tolls have been mostly in single digits, largely because knives have been the most-used weapon. China largely prohibits private ownership of guns.
The Chinese Xinhua News Agency revealed that Min Yingjun first stabbed an elderly woman in her home before attacking students at a nearby primary school before classes began. Several of the more severely injured students have been transferred to hospitals outside of the largely rural county. No possible motive has been released.
