Defense officials said late Sunday that former Taliban POW Bowe Berdahl will return to active duty as early as today. According to a report from The New York Times, Berdahl will live in the barracks and take a job at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where he's been in therapy the past few weeks.
Bergdahl's disappearance from his base in Afghanistan and subsequent capture by the Taliban is still being investigated. The Times reports that Bergdahl will meet with Maj. Gen. Kenneth R. Dahl, who is leading the investigation. Last month, the Army said it has "no reason to believe" that Bergdahl did anything wrong during his five years in captivity.
At least one Taliban sympathizer in Afghanistan claims the opposite — he posted a photo on Twitter this weekend purporting to show that Bergdahl enjoyed his time in captivity. Bergdahl has said he was tortured during this time. The photo itself shows Bergdahl looking extremely thin.
