Order in the Washington County Justice Court? No. Bats!
When employees arrived for work at the 5th Judicial District Courthouse in St. George, Utah on Thursday, they were greeted by a bunch of new little Brazilian free-tailed bat friends. According to KSL, 40 bats were removed on Thursday and Friday from courtrooms, the attic, ceilings, and other areas of the building, and "perhaps dozens more" are still inside.
Despite all these damn bats being around, court proceedings have gone on as usual. Zac Weiland, a deputy prosecutor from Washington County, told KSL that he could hear scratching noises as soon as he walked into court Friday morning, adding, "I don't like bats. I saw it crawling, and it's stuck in a little lamp, and I'm like, I'm done. I want out."
Me too, my man!
Bats are protected in Utah, so the Division of Wildlife Resources has been attempting a "catch and release" program to remove the creepy little pals. Lynn Chamberlain of the Division of Wildlife Resources explained, "There is an apparatus put in place, kind of a one-way door where they can get out but can't get back in."
They hope to have the bats removed by Monday.
