Job Description

Jalopnik, a Gawker Media Group site with more than 8 million global monthly users, is seeking a freelance automotive columnist. This writer will be responsible for producing engaging, humorous written work for Jalopnik's car-obsessed audience that can also appeal to a broader base of readers on the internet. We're looking for someone who can write cleanly, quickly and intelligently in Jalopnik's honest and irreverent tone. 

This writer will be a paid, part-time writer able to set their own hours as long as they produce 2-3 pieces of written content every week. 

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have some writing experience, although not necessarily in cars;
  • Be someone who is comfortable turning out a great deal of work every month 
  • Be organized, detail-oriented, and an ambitious writer comfortable at a website with a massive audience
  • Fit into Jalopnik's no-holds-barred approach to covering the auto industry and other topics
  • Respond quickly to cultural and news events with appropriate stories
  • Be able to turn out video content, although this is a plus and not a requirement
