Colorado officials are worried about a "Black Wednesday" situation when recreational marijuana officially goes on sale on the first January. Authorities say they fear there won't be enough state-sanctioned pot available for eager customers.

While more than 100 stores have been approved, city licensers estimate only 12 stores will be in operation by January 1 at 8 am.

"If we have 10 stores open … we could have people camping out overnight with cash in their pocket," Denver councilman Charlie Brown (real name) told Time. "How is the industry, how is the police department going to work together?"

Officials are mainly worried about crowd control for the recreational marijuana stores, but they may be seriously overestimating the motivation of recreational marijuana users.
