<![CDATA[Triborough commented on Buy Your Own Authentic European Vanity Tag]]> Actually Australian plates are a bit larger than the US/CDN standard plates.
The only Australian plate that I know of that was US sized is this one from 1988 from NSW:

<![CDATA[Triborough commented on Buy Your Own Authentic European Vanity Tag]]> @layabout:
Most of the UK plates are a standard size, but there are some vehicle specific plates.
The Northern Ireland plate is 6x12 and probably came off a North American vehicle imported.

]]>
<![CDATA[Triborough commented on Buy Your Own Authentic European Vanity Tag]]> Those are hardly authentic. The dies used are similar to the German and look sort of authentic, but the seals on them are über bogus.
You can get a free sample plate from the Swedish equivalent of the DMV for the cost of a letter. Perfect for the front of any Saab or Volvo in a one plate state!
Note the real plate (in this case the free sample I got) has a serial number stamped into it as well as an "insure image" with the name and logo of Vägverket (the Swedish DMV):

You can get a properly made up set of UK plates from a few UK companies (they get away with it since they are selling "signs for export") which have the proper standard MOT approved typefaces. Probably the most reasonable is Framptons
Here is an actual plate (rear) from Northern Ireland that is oddly in the standard US size:

I have three European plates in my collection and all three cost way less than $40 plus shipping.

Anyway, anyone who puts the personalized fake European plate on the front of their vehicle just makes themselves look like an asshat.

<![CDATA[Triborough commented on Ten Greatest American Police Patrol Cars]]> The NYPD two Diplomat/Fury you have pictured aren't authentic. The precincts (27 and 55) on the side don't exist and the fleet number on one of them is out of the proper range. Here is the real deal:
NYPD RMP
Plymouth Grand Fury RMP

However, our favourite (it being Canada Day and all) were the bright yellow ones they had in Toronto.

I am pretty sure this has a LT1 350 in it plus it is a wagon! (They do look better in blue, though.)
NYPD Chevrolet Caprice Station Wagon

<![CDATA[Triborough commented on IIHC Wants Car-Like Truck Bumpers, Has Never Seen Aftermarket]]> I think that all trucks, especially SUVs, should require the driver to have a CDL and to be registered/insured as commercial vehicles. This would increase safety, discourage those Westchester soccer moms from buying vehicles they can't drive properly, and would reduce oil consumption.
It would be a small penalty for those who need such vehicles for their businesses (although in many cases the person driving them would have a CDL), but would get a lot of morons out of vehicles they can't handle.

<![CDATA[Triborough commented on Quotations From Chairman Barry]]> This "book" is just the polar opposite of the ones published (no doubt on paper from virgin forest trees) by the right wing nutjob talk radio hosts with titles like:
Obama: He'll Let the Terrorists in Because he is One
Obama: A Pinko Liberal Commie America Hater
Vote for Obama if You Hate America and the Nascar
Obama Will Take Your Gun and Truck From You
Obama: He Doesn't Support Our Troops or Jesus Christ and Don't Even Think About Voting for Ralph Nader Because he is an Arab.

God, I am so sick and tired of hearing about this overhyped Obama product. This "book" is obviously another cog in the marketing empire that is Oprahbama. I distrust anything that is over marketed especially if it is Oprah approved given her track record of poor judgment - James Frey and of course she is responsible for Dr. Phil are the two biggies. I also distrust Illinois politicians and Chicago politicians (Chicago: where the dead vote and vote Democrat!) in general, since they make Tammany Hall look like the League of Women Voters.

The alternative of the guy who left half his mind in a Viet Cong POW camp is only less worse because it is not a brand marketed up the bloody wazoo. Not that I would trust the Manchurian Candidate, either.

Christ, we'd be better off if they picked a name at random out of the Manhattan white pages.
