It was just bad. I thought in the first one Jessica Alba's hotness was sufficient to compensate for her acting, but in this one, it wasn't enough. The part where the Surfer just grabs the Human Torch by the throat and then drops him from the upper reaches of the atmosphere was cool. (But then, it was just as cool in the trailer.)

[IRON MAN SPOILERS BELOW]

@Helman: No. I mean, yes, I deny it. The dancing flight attendants were in the first thirty minutes, weren't they? And I thought Jeff Bridges was perfect! Actually, I totally didn't even realize that was him -- I kept thinking, "That actor looks so familiar!" But I thought he was quite effective as an apparent good guy and equally menacing once the switch was revealed.

I was just so wowed, though, that it's possible my objectivity has been affected. I'll totally invite you out with Rob, but you have to promise to BE COOL.

If history is any indicator, the first thing Web 3.0 is gonna tackle will be a workable Casual Encounters. Something like this (EXCEPT WITHOUT THE SAD GIRLS):

("How do we filter out the teases? We don't let them in.")

1. Arrested Development
2. 30 Rock
3. The Office
4. the British Office
5. Extras
6. Who's the Boss
7. The Dick Van Dyke Show
8. Sledge Hammer
9. The Charmings
10. Kate & Allie

The main character is a pretty accurate rendition of more than a few men out there; apparently, the breakup scene with Sarah was taken from the actor/writer's real-life experience.

moff commented on Is the New Indiana Jones Going to Suck? @koala325: Sarah Marshall was a little too long (I know, a Judd Apatow production -- who'd have guessed?), but it was consistently very funny. A little too raunchy to be a first-eHarmony-date movie, but worth your time.

moff commented on The Week Obama Won the Internet @CodePink: EXACTLY. But I'm a lot more taken with all the over-the-topness now than I was during the too-cool '90s. Kind of like how there are some massive buildings in New York that I know were built by the titans of industry as monuments to their own greatness with no regard for the working folk who gave their labor and sometimes even their lives for the construction, and even though I know that's bad, I'm still impressed by their audacity. Kind of like that.

moff commented on The Dangers of Electricity Addiction @DocGratis: My dear Doctor, you need to break out of that old-school, linear, hierarchical, a-place-for-everything-and-everything-in-its-right-place mode of thought. It's the 21st century! This is the Internet! New media! The consumers are also the producers!

Who cares if the post is yet another thinly veiled plea from Newitz for someone to hypnotize her and share her private netherbits with all their friends? What, the cyberpolice are gonna knock on your door if you just turn the comments into a "BSG WTF?" festival? It's like George Michael (the singer/songwriter, not the frozen-banana stand manager) said: "All we have to see / Is that I don't belong to you / And you don't belong to me / FREEDOM!"

Just don't mention if the Cylons are still the bad guys in Season Four or if they're still on the Enterprise. I HAVEN'T WATCHED THAT FAR YET.

moff commented on The Week Obama Won the Internet @CodePink: I think it's like, back when she was younger, there was a boy in her life who wasn't much older than the boys who are about to start at the school, and now it's over and ended badly, and she can't help but be overcome with sadness and nostalgia and yet it's so achingly beautiful, too, because it happened, and she wouldn't give it up for the world. And she catches something about the boy at the end that reminds her so strongly and suddenly of her lost love that it makes her heart stop for a second.
