La Cieca commented on Gwyneth Paltrow To Steal Role in Crappy Musical From Anne Hathaway The word "peculiar" and the goddess Donna McKechnie do not belong on the same page.

However, if you look up the word "peculiar" in a dictionary, right next to it will be a picture of Gwyneth Paltrow singing "I'll Never Fall in Love Again."

La Cieca commented on Things Are Looking Up For The Women In Hollywood @Notes from the underwhelmed: Miss M is playing Countess de Lave ("Oh, l'amour, l'amour, how it can let you down. Hmm. How it can pick you up again!") The Roz Russell role goes to Annette Bening.

@laughingacademy: There is a strong vein of class critique in the original play that is softened somewhat in the 1939 film, e.g., a scene where a nurse at a private maternity hospital goes off on a rant about how medical care during childbirth is a luxury only rich women can afford.

La Cieca commented on New York Times Magazine's Sleepy Limbaugh Cover Story @Dickdogfood: how exactly do Rush's fans rationalize the Oxycontin addiction?

Well, first of all they get most of their news from Rush, so they hear only his side of the story.

Second, most Rush fans are blue-collar workers or retirees and so a large percentage of them have some personal knowledge the difficulty of managing chronic pain. So they sympathize with what they perceive as Rush's genuine reason to begin taking the medication.

Third, cognitive dissonance likely leads them to deny at least part of the evidence.

La Cieca commented on Emily Gould's Highly-Guarded Book Proposal @rod townsend: I don't think there's a market for a memoir unless it has at least one of these qualities:

a) you are a famous person by nature (e.g., your father is the President of the United States);

b) you have become a famous person through some deed or misdeed of your own (say, Paris Hilton or Lance Armstrong);

c) your biography can be manipulated into a story arc suitable for the Lifetime Movie Network. This almost invariably involves the death of a family member from cancer or drug abuse, and the Life Lessons learned therefrom.

For you, a) is not an option, and at the moment you don't quite qualify for b). So I would say your shot right now is to invite your whole family for a sundrenched beach vacation, provide unlimited free heroin, and then wait for the bodies to start piling up.
