I am also so fucking glad that another mom and I figured out way back in kindergarten how to explain this nasty prostitot shit to our kids. We just explained that it's way too sexy for little kids and that even sometimes grown-ups are way too sexy.

Can you imagine a Sesame Street adaption of that Too Sexy song that re-worked it into a sort of anti-sexualization PSA message to young girls and boys? It'd be fucking badass.

For the record, most of the girls at my petite's school wear jeans, capris, printed tees with pandas and stars and hearts and monkeys or whatnot on them, little flats or skimmers or tennis shoes and brightly-patterned hoodies. It's basically the standard uniform for everyone.

It's ever-so-slightly off-topic, but in light of all the killer mean girls or hyper-sexualized girls news...

If anyone wants an uplifting story about a little girl, mine has spent the past two weeks standing up for a little boy in her class that everyone ceaselessly makes fun of. I think the last straw for her was when he just gave up and starting crying in line, poor thing. Her teacher looked the other way when the petite shouted at the other kids to STFU and leave him alone, and she's since written him a letter telling him how smart he is and what "an intelligent sense of humor" he's got, and when no one picked him yesterday for groups of 2 or 3 for an activity, she and her little friend asked him to be on their team and he obliged.

God damn, it makes me all teary-eyed just thinking about it. I want to beat those other stupid mean kids up and buy that boy a sundae and some awesome books.

So, can someone, anyone here kindly tell us if there is but one "take-home" message from Eat, Pray, Love, pray, what is it?

I'm invested in this site. I just am. I want it preserved as an adult space, and I want the peace of mind knowing that any kid who engages in unsafe sex with or without an STD and thinks it's A-OK to do so didn't get that shit from the site I love and support and participate in.

There's nothing to argue about, kittens. I'm pretty sure the majority of us commenting on this particular subject are pro-sex, pro-Jezebel, pro-SM and pro-sex ed., incl. safe sex.

If she really wants to write about sex, which she absolutely should do if she wants to, that's non-negotiable. If she does, that's great, I do believe we need it and there's a place for it, but if she wants to seriously do so, she's going to have to Come To Jesus on some of these very valid points re: her audience.

I really do hope that she can take some of this feedback in (not the haters, of course, that's fucking BULLSHIT) and use it to become an even better sex writer, which in turn would make her an even better sex partner!

In any case, I want to be proud of Jezebel. Sexual misinformation that can lead to lives being ruined isn't gonna make mama proud (since you went there, let's roll with it). Throwing out a bone every now and then for safe sex will.

There is no shortage of coverage on Jezebel pointing to how alright the kids aren't, as a matter of fact, so I think eventually working toward a healthy balance would be prudent for everyone.

A bona fide win-win with little or no compromise necessary.

Whilst SM cannot help that teenage Jezebels will invariably read her posts here, watch Pot Psych and perhaps even read her personal blog aside from Jezebel, and while I don't particularly think she should have to tailor or censor herself because that's happened/is happening/will continue to happen, it might behoove Jezebel to consider (and may God strike me down if this is a terrible idea) a friendly 18+ warning or whatnot, similar to the ones used by GV and TIB on their sites, to dissuade age-inappropriate audiences (cough-cough Gossip Girl) from entering the site.

Trust, I never thought the day would come that I'd feel, of all things, a sense of responsibility on Jezebel. Are you fucking kidding me? I am actually repulsed still by the idea of it, but it's pretty clear that whether or not we're ready to deal with it, that is the case. While we're in here sipping cocktails and comparing Shenis sizes/aim, fourteen-year-olds are soaking up every fucking word, yo.

It is not as though we have set up camp on Nick Jr. or Disney/Pixar and unleashed the hounds of liberated female hell with abandon unto the children.

It is that the children have climbed the fence and set up camp, whether or not we like it.

Perhaps GV weeded that shit out. Perhaps she got a shitload of nasty comments, but they were screened before they ever reached the public. Perhaps a blog in such a sex-positive space to begin with just didn't garner that much interest or audacity from bona fide prudes or vanillas or ignorant, judgmental, intolerant SOBs.

I don't know. I am saying all of this to be encouraging, I suppose, to let you, SM, and others who are like-minded or like-sexed, know that somewhere, once upon a time, an ideal sex blog existed free from the things you are upset about.

I miss her sex blog, my old friend's, and while I won't be coy and say that any amount of sex blogging here has filled that void, it certainly has been a satisfactory placeholder.

Kind of like casual, single-girl sex.

The Women of U-Conn or whatnot

One of the reasons I absolutely love it here is because it has, in many ways, embodied this whole "Fuck your either/or!" structure that other sites just don't have. Sex? Yes. Fluffy, inconsequential celeb BS? Yes. Beauty? Yes. Politics? Yes. Feminism? Yes, please. World news? Yes, yes, yes.

I want it all.

We're all actually quite lucky and fortunate to afford - mentally, with regard to time, emotionally, financially - to be here, and tempting as it is to stay in the cozy Jezebubble on line, it really is actually extremely important for us to engage in exactly this sort of conversation with people in our lives, on or offline.

Without awareness, it's difficult to even begin the process of education.

Latoya was graceful in gently but firmly calling out excuses as excuses, and did an excellent job of trying to illustrate how context is vital. It's work and it's wearying and constantly changing AND cumulative, but it's critical to gaining any sort of understand or actual comprehension of how complex (and yet not) global women's issues are.

I think part of what Lotoya meant, or at least what I believe, is that in some ways as long as you are unaware of who the world players are (like the US and World Bank), and for how long and in what ways they are players, you can still have the best intentions and effect change, but it will...weigh less, I suppose, because you have not taken the time - or no one else has taken the time - to keep you informed.
