Who
A onetime news anchor and TV reporter, Hanover is most famous for having been married to Rudy Giuliani for 18 years and bearing his two children.
Backstory
The daughter of a Navy lieutenant, California-born Donna Anna Kofnovec attended journalism school at Columbia before getting her start as a radio reporter, later transitioning to on-air reporter gigs at stations in Pennsylvania and Florida. It was while working in Miami in 1984 that she first met Giuliani; he proposed just six weeks later. (Alas, it took a bit longer for the actual wedding to take place: Giuliani was still married at the time and more than a year went by before his marriage to Regina Peruggi was annulled.) After tying the knot with Rudy—who was then a federal prosecutor—and moving to New York, Hanover worked as an anchor on WPIX Channel 11, quitting the gig in 1989 when Rudy ran for mayor the first time. When he was elected on his second try in 1994, she returned to TV as a Fox 5 reporter and later hosted a show on the Food Network. She's also had acting roles in various movies and TV shows over the years, including The People vs. Larry Flynt, Ransom, Law & Order, Sex and the City, and One Life to Live. These days Hanover co-hosts WOR Radio's morning show and appears in the syndicated TV show Famous Homes and Hideaways.
Drama
Hanover's marriage to Rudy had fallen apart long before they officially split in 2000. Years before Judi Nathan came along there was Cristyne Lategano, who became Giuliani's press chief in 1993 at the age of 28 and had a long romance with the former mayor. (Rumor has it they even installed a secret door that connected their offices.) After the Lategno affair ended, Giuliani took up with Judi Nathan, who approached him at a cigar bar in 1999. About a year later—and just 10 days after Giuliani was diagnosed for prostate cancer—his marriage to Hanover dissolved publicly when the then-mayor called a public press conference to announce he and Hanover were divorcing. A nasty mudslinging contest ensued, thanks in large part to Rudy's spotlight-seeking attorney, Raoul Felder. The divorce was finally settled in June 2002 when Hanover received a $6.8 million, tax-free settlement as well as custody of their two kids.
Personal
Hanover has been married three times. Her first marriage, in 1972, was to a writer/lawyer named Stanley Hanover, although the details are murky and she's refused to discuss the union. The couple divorced shortly before she married Rudy in 1984. In 2003, she married for the third time when she tied the knot with Ed Oster, her high school sweetheart. Hanover later published a book about reuniting with her old flame entitled My Boyfriend's Back. The couple live in a 3,600 square foot duplex on Central Park West; they also have a home in Newport Beach, which they purchased for $2.15 million in 2005. Hanover had two kids with Giuliani, Andrew and Caroline. Both are considerably closer to mom than dad: Both occasionally use their mother's name, Hanover, in lieu of Giuliani.
