For most of us, Robert Durst's apparent confession at the end of HBO's The Jinx was a shocking, bone-chilling revelation. To Durst's lawyer Chip Lewis, however, it was really no big deal, because hey, who hasn't copped to a murder or three while talking to themselves?

Speaking with fellow Jinx interviewee Jeanine Pirro on Fox News Sunday night, Lewis explained why he was less than unimpressed by Durst's possible self-incrimination. From The Hollywood Reporter (emphasis ours):

"My overarching thoughts are, I was a bit underwhelmed, given the lead-up and the build-up to this new development," he said.

Lewis then went on to [say]: "You've said things under your breath that you probably didn't mean."

When Jeanine Pirro said, "Chip, the guy admitted on television he killed three people," Lewis replied: "I mean, L.A. County has got the case. We'll address those facts in the courtroom. But generally speaking I was underwhelmed, honestly, Judge."

Of course, Durst's actual words—"Killed them all, of course"—were far from a clear-cut admission, but Lewis seems to think that even if it was a confession (and not an out-of-context partial thought), his client might not have really meant it.

Hopefully, Lewis believes this "saying things you don't mean" quirk also applies to Fox News.
