Two female Saudi Arabian soccer fans attending a match last week between their beloved home team and the United Arab Emirates' Al Ain FC in the UAE were captured on video celebrating, then mourning their team's loss at a public stadium. The video has resulted in a heinous backlash from men online who believe the women should have been at home instead.

The BBC reports that a clip of the two Saudi women cheering on their team (who lost 2-1) has been viewed over 400,000 times and is replete with comments asking why women were even allowed in to the game. There are no laws in the UAE prohibiting women from attending public sports matches.

Over 900 people have commented on the clip, most of them angry men, critical of the unidentified woman for being in a stadium filled with thousands of men. "Women aren't interested in football, so why go to a stadium to watch a live match?" wrote one. "Does this woman not have a man? Her place is in the house," said another. Many who oppose women being allowed into stadia say it encourages immoral and sinful behaviour. Others say it puts women at risk of being harassed.

Women in Saudi Arabia are currently banned from attending soccer games, though the idea of building separate sections for female spectators has reportedly been floated.
