Germany announced today that it's asked the top CIA official at the U.S. embassy in Berlin to leave the country. The expulsion comes just days after German officials launched investigations two possible U.S. spies have been investigated in Germany.
The New York Times reports that Clemens Binger, a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel's party, called the request "a political reaction of the government to the lack of willingness of U.S. authorities to help clear up any questions arising in the past year" regarding American surveillance in Germany.
U.S. officials have not commented on Germany's request.
