Another Danish Zoo Is Planning to Execute a Healthy GiraffeS

In what is turning into an alarming game of Danish musical giraffe cages, another Danish zoo has announced that it may shoot and kill a second healthy giraffe to make way for a genetically superior specimen.

Last week the Copenhagen zoo executed a "surplus" giraffe named Marius, saying that the genetically inferior giraffe was taking up space. On Sunday, zookeepers shot the giraffe and fed it to the zoo's lions.

"Giraffes today breed very well, and when they do you have to choose and make sure the ones you keep are the ones with the best genes," the zoo's scientific director told the BBC.

Now a second zoo has announced that it too will probably shoot and kill a healthy seven-year-old so that a genetically superior female can take his cage. The zoo hasn't acquired a new female yet but is keeping its options open.
