Jerry Falwell, Jr., president of Liberty University and son of professional television charlatan Jerry Falwell, just officially endorsed man-who-has-definitely-read-the-Bible Donald Trump for President of the United States. Both Corinthians would be proud.
In a statement announcing his endorsement, Falwell called Trump “a successful executive and entrepreneur, a wonderful father and a man who I believe can lead our country to greatness again.”
This is, of course, something of a blow to Ted Cruz, who would otherwise be the Evangelical shoe-in, just days before the Iowa caucus. Falwell’s endorsement certainly won’t sway every vote, but coupled with Palin, his blessing gives Trump a certain credibility with a hyper-religious base who might otherwise be inclined to question the faith of a man who said: “I am an evangelical. I’m a Christian. I’m a Presbyterian.”
In response to Falwell’s endorsement, Trump told The Post, “It is truly an honor to receive Jerry’s endorsement. Not only is he a high-quality person, with a wonderful family, whom I have great respect for – I also consider him a very good friend and his support means so much to me.” Trump has used these familiar words to describe pretty much everyone who hasn’t wronged him.
Falwell’s always been a fan of Trump, though, saying on Fox News just a few weeks ago that “Trump reminds me so much of my father,” which is a comparison that is as fair as it is terrifying.
Anyway, here’s a picture of Donald Trump with a bible.
Congratulations to President Trump.
