Just months after an RT America anchor quit her job during a live televised broadcast, another journalist publicly left the Russian government-funded news network.
This morning, Russia Today reporter Sara Firth announced her departure on Twitter:
Before the announcement, Firth, a London-based correspondent, published a series of tweets criticizing the network, seemingly in response to another RT reporter's assertion that she wasn't "spreading Putin's lies."
While it seems increasingly likely that pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine were responsible for firing on the plane, RT's stance — as well as Vladimir Putin's — is that the Ukrainian government is probably to blame.
"It's Russia Today all over, it's flirting with that border of overtly lying. You're not telling a lie, you're just bringing something up. I didn't want to watch a story like that, where people have lost loved ones and we're handling it like that.
"I couldn't do it any more. Every single day we're lying and finding sexier ways to do it."
According to the Press Gazette, Firth handed in her resignation this morning.
