Buzzfeed's Myles Tanzer just uncovered an internal New York Times report on the paper's digital strategy that, he writes, "paints a dark picture of a newsroom struggling more dramatically than is immediately visible to adjust to the digital world."

Tanzer says that the report—the opening line of which is "The New York Times is winning at journalism"—"doesn't appear immediately related" to the recent firing of Times executive editor Jill Abramson. He details some of its warnings:

The report has some specific suggestions around, for instance, more extensive promotion plans for big stories; one experiment described as a success led to Ashton Kutcher tweeting a Nicholas Kristof column on sex trafficking.
