    American Scientist has a study on altruistic behavior during chance encounters between strangers in various cities and comes to the conclusion that New Yorkers aren't very nice. But, as one reader points out, "While we don't like to help people who are hurt or had dropped something, we like blind people the best—more so than in San Francisco."
