A Bee Grows in Brooklyn*

slope.jpgNorth Brooklyn may have warring Hasidim and an army of ironic-t-shirt-wearing dudes with the exact same haircut, but in the ongoing battle for edge the South has a powerful new weapon in its arsenal: bees. And not just any bees, brunch-interrupting bees. As blogger The Apiary documents (in words and pictures), popular Park Slope restaurant Sotto Voce suffered an attack of winged fury this weekend, forcing the neighborhood's population of hip lesbians to wheel their titanium Maclaren strollers elsewhere, lest little Milo and Madison suffer a sting. Laugh if you must, Williamsburghers, but be forewarned: Once the Southerners train these suckers to attack, you're never going to be able to go to Union Pool again. We're scoring this one for the South.

  • The South will rise.

  • Pray tell... who is blogging on gawker today who has yet to master the whole "insert photo next to the text" routine?

  • As someone who currently lives in what this site insists on referring to as "South Brooklyn", for the love of Christ, Park Slope is not not NOT South Brooklyn. I mean, if it is, what hell does that make Coney Island? (I'm peaking on behalf of those of us who grew up in the REAL South Brooklyn -- you know, the 2/3 of the borough south of Prospect Park, and the three million of us who were born and lived here before the Great East River migration began) Yeah, it's great that these LES/UES refugees are here now -- and speaking for my blue-collar parents, most REAL Brooklyn natives could not be happier taht development and gentrification seem unstoppable at this point (yeah, Heath Ledger, I'm talking to YOU). But all these arguments that keep getting posted here -- over who has more street cred ane etc -- are, frankly, pretty bullshit coming from people who moved here and created competing wannabe-hipster/yuppie paradigms sometime after Britney Spears forced herself on the American public. And they crack me the fuck up. (end rant. have a happy day!)
