    Rumor correction: Eclipse cigarettes

Page Six reported yesterday that RJ Reynolds had developed a smokeless cigarette called "Eclipse" that, had it been available earlier, may have eliminated the need for the smoking ban.

Anil Dash writes, "...the Eclipse product is actually about 7 years old:

It's based on an earlier product, Premier, that actually dates back fifteen years. They're just trotting them back out due to convenience. The best part? They're worse for you than regular cigarettes.

But they make up for it by tasting worse and removing the entire oral-fixation flickering-flame ritual that makes people want to smoke in the first place. Can you imagine a guy in a bar offering to warm the end of your cigarette instead of lighting it?"
