TODO is one daily thing recommended for you, by us.
Until college, we existed on a fairly naive plane—we applied eyeliner haphazardly and high-end shopping was done at Urban Outfitters. But then we found ourselves at a university that shall remain nameless, at which girls had a different Prada handbag every day of the week and their fingernails were always covered in one of the probably 80 pale pink shades of Essie nailpolish. We, alas, had not gotten the memo. Deep down, we knew that even if we had gotten the memo, we probably wouldn't have gotten the memo, but still. We felt poor, and un-girl-like.
At our work-study job at the library, we would take note of the art history majors who pranced through the door. One, in particular, stood out. In retrospect, she looked vaguely like Tinsley Mortimer, but at the time she seemed to embody a particular state of rich-girlhood that we would never achieve. More than her (admittedly unremarkable) looks and her (very expensive) clothes, however, we noted how she smelled. She smelled ... well, she smelled like a rich girl. Normally we didn't go in for strong perfume, but there was something almost aphrodisiacal about this girl's perfume. It drove us almost as wild as Drakkar Noir did in 8th grade.
We never mustered the courage to ask Rich Girl what she was wearing. We assumed it was some sort of secret concoction, like that shade of blonde that she and all her friends chose for their highlights, that we would never be privy to. But then one day, at a discount perfume store in a mall in South Florida (where we were visiting our grandparents), we smelled that elusive smell once again. It turned out to be Quelques Fleurs, which, we learned, was the first multi-floral scent ever created, by the French perfumer Houbigant. When you buy it at a department store, it costs something ridiculous like $170 for a 3.3-oz. bottle, but we managed to convince Grandma to shell out something like $50. We're no longer surrounded by rich girls, but every so often we spritz a bit on our wrists to make ourselves feel all fancy. Also, we recently learned that Nicole Richie has been wearing it since 7th grade, which must be how she reeled in Joel Madden.
