In a few minutes, Wall Street Journal employees will be herded into a meeting where, we understand, they will learn that the Saturday "Pursuits" section—baby of left-for-Portfolio editor Joanne Lipman—is being rebranded as a Saturday edition of the Friday "Weekend" section. We hear that there are plans afoot to use the "Pursuits" rubric as the title for the new T-style magazine section that Rupert Murdoch mentioned wanting to see. This is all preliminary, but if it is, in fact, the case, it's hard not to see it as one more indictment of Lipman, who never properly articulated the section's raison d'etre before decamping to Conde Nast.

What a relief. At first I thought everyone was going to be Hannitized at 4:00 sharp.
@Nard38:
Is that like an O'Reilly Treatment?
Scary.
Just as long as they don't fuck with the Friday crossword, I'm okay.
Wow, I hate fratty bars and the UES too! Lance and I should totes be BFF.
OK, fine, I'll go with Rupert Murdoch. I also usually call my friends out of desperation when they try to abandon me.
Typical of the way things are done here at WSJ...they hire a separate staff of young college graduates to man Pursuits when they have a perfectly capable (and underworked) staff producing the Weekend section....For that matter, they have about 20-30 people whose sole job it is to write two or three big stories a year, and not do anything else....Is this what Rupert wants his $$ spent on? This is sure to be the first of many foldings, trims and cutbacks to get the place running like an actual for-profit enterprise - that's what happens when people who know how to run a business get their hands on a place where no one knows how one is run.
@Hagan: But is the crossword safe??? PLEASE tell me that the crossword's safe!!!!!
