Your message just make me smile because it sounded very familiar to me. Everything you say -- about Dorothy, John C, Ian and John T -- doesn't surprise me or contradict my experience with them. I've just spent more time with Dorothy and John and John so I've gotten to know them better. They are all quite "complicated" people. Ian C only came for a visit to give a talk so I really don't know him that well but he seemed like a great person -- and he was doing really interesting work.

RE John T's book: just imagine the stories that DIDN'T make it into the book!!

Also -- the Japanese Hip Hop is from Ian Condry. He's at MIT. He's a really wonderful person.

But the person I really got to know was John Treat.

We SO need to talk. Actually John and Dorothy are not married. But I agree, they might as well be. What classes did your friend's take? I want to hear it all.
