<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Will Madonna Bring Justin & Britney Back Together?]]> @hharlowe: Sorry darling, you need to get yourself on my mailing list for the newsletter. Next week the topic is :Why you should never go out with alcoholics or drug addicts who are obviously not recovering...and who like Mishka.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Scientists Predict That Babies Of The Future Will Be Born To Centarians With Artificial Wombs]]> I'm not sure how I feel about IVF at all, but I seriously doubt that any 100 year old woman will choose to have a baby, artificial womb or no.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Will Madonna Bring Justin & Britney Back Together?]]> @hharlowe: Any guy that loves Mishka (last Summer I dated a guy who used 'I'll give you all the love.." as sex music. On Repeat.) deserves to be an ex. So wipe your tears safe in the knowledge that this guy is most definitely a douchebag.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Will Madonna Bring Justin & Britney Back Together?]]> Mishka? Oh for God's sake!

I saw Diana Ross on Friday. Maybe if Jacko had been there she wouldn't have bitched the crowd out for filming her because she doesn't get paid for YouTube.

<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Saucy Brits Love A Little Bondage In The Bedroom]]> @amowls: If you're dad was a famous strangler then I'd be a bit worried.

@Robert Synnott: Exactly. Moseley's other son absolutely hated his father before his untimely death. It's just all slightly sinister.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Saucy Brits Love A Little Bondage In The Bedroom]]> Maybe it's just me,but the issue is less about the spanking and more about the son of Britain's leading fascist Oswald Mosley (Hitler was a witness at his wedding) indulging in Nazi game play. Allegedly.

<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on The Hot Celebrity Lesbian Affair It Took Us A Year To Notice]]> It's because Samantha Ronson isn't Hollywood pretty (that's not to say she's not pretty, she's just not airbrushed, faux-human pretty) and Lindsay's 'troubled'. People assumed it was a fad and thusly not marketable.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Want To Make More Money? Don't "Sound Black." Or Southern!]]> I'm sure this was in the book itself, that people with obviously 'black' names don't do as well in job interviews (or get job interviews) as those that don't. It's also a little bit obvious.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Alicia Keys Receives Mixed Reports About The Weather]]> Of course she has, it's raining cats and dogs and then sunny as you like in London at the moment. She knows what she's doing y'all.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @gherkinfiend: Sure, and most of the time I would agree with you, but in this case, I think TE's comments have been overanalysed and overdiscussed and probably mean more now than she meant them to.

She made a stupid joke and people are cross, I completely understand that, but I don't think that it means any more than that.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @gherkinfiend: I don't know, but I don't think it's sensible to say that none would. I also don't think it's fair that some topics are verboten. I get really pissed off at jokes on certain topics, and it's my right to say so, but it's also the right of the joke teller to make it...unless it's illegal.

I would like to say that TE wasn't really joking about rape in that 'Pah! Rape, now that's a laugh!' way, it was just a sarky little barb to diffuse a difficult situation. It didn't work though.

I'm also really sorry about what happened to you.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @irregardless38: Of course.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @TruculentandUnreliable: Usually I would agree with you, but in this case I think people are tying too much to a girl who calls herself Slut Machine, makes crass and flippant comments about everything, who got pissed and said something dumb about rape.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @katekate is squared: I guess so, shall we be friends though?

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @katekate is squared: I disagree, I don't think Tracie's comments showed a lack of empathy, just a weariness of having to live a life in fear of sexual assault. I don't think she was making fun of rape or rape victims, it was just a sarky aside, which Jezebel seems to be all about at times. I just can't figure out why some topics are off limits and others aren't. It just seems arbitrary to me.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @irregardless38: She was a college student, I'm not sure that when I was at university I would have had the strength or wherewithal to report a rape. Shit, I had to get friends to march me to the chemist to buy a pregnancy test. With hindsight and age it's easy to say 'She did wrong' but unless you're her, and were there, judging isn't really on. Besides, from my perspective it seems that she has a had time coming to terms with justifying and coming to terms with what happen. Sorry if that sounds patronising Moe, it wasn't mean to be.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @TruculentandUnreliable: See, here's where I think you're getting it wrong. Making a joke about a difficult topic, isn't callous or show a lack of empathy. It is what it is, some people talk about issues like rape in a lighter manner than others but it doesn't mean that either side is wrong for doing so, it just means that they are different people. We all know Tracie is flippant and doesn't really care about being seen as acceptable, but we also know that she isn't heartless or disrespectful. I seriously think people are losing their shit where they needn't. But that's my opinion. I also don't think there was any victim-blaming going on, how could there be when Moe was sitting next to Tracie and has been raped twice. I don't really care for Tracie's lifestyle or attitude to sex, but I do like her lack of fear and determination to say what she wants despite some people's view that it's unacceptable. I think it's better than cringing around subjects that in reality we need to talk about more openly and jokes and wisecracks help that to happen. Would we all be here talking about our feelings on rape and feminism properly is she hadn't?

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @katekate is squared: The interviewer was, and people were here too. Why not? Can you explain that to me?

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @TruculentandUnreliable: I'm sorry, I can't agree. Rape is something that faces ALL women, and I do not at all mean to diminish or negate the suffering women that have been. But I also don't think, that other women can't make jokes on the subject, what about the women who have been raped and found the jokes funny? Are their opinions invalidated by the women who don't?

No, because that's racism.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @katekate is squared: Tracie did say earlier in the interview that she knows smart women suffer rape too. I'm not defending in any way the wholesale content of the interview, not at all, (I made a long and sensible post about it on the first page), I just don't feel that T & M should be burned at the stake for cracking wise about rape/not reporting a rape. It doesn't help anyone, especially not dialogue.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @Gundam_Halo: Of course you could, I doubt that every time you make an off colour joke 50 people call you an idiot in public for it. The very idea that it isn't ok to joke about certain topics without being a traitor to womanity really sticks in my throat.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @TruculentandUnreliable: And why the eff not? We all know it isn't true? We all know that rape is terrible and horriffic, does the subject have to be something that cannot be discussed lightheartedly and with wisecracks? I'm black and joke about it all the time, as do black comedians and writers. Why does rape always have to be discussed in hushed tones?

I haven't been raped and pray to God that I never am, but Tracie wasn't saying 'Hahaha, you got raped, sucks for you!' she made a wisecrack about an issue that, as I am sure she knows and appreciates, damages people, but a joke doesn't diminish the horror of the act, it's just a different way of talking about a serious issue.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on British Anglicans Give Their Blessing To Female Bishops]]> @fol_de_rol: Yes, but us moderate lovely Anglicans win, so there!

I'm again being flippant (I need to watch that here from now on), I see your worry, but The Catholic Church already doesn't like homosexuals or women, so it wont make much of a change.

You're right, the righty Anglicans are picking and choosing, but that's what religious people do.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> Oh Good Grief! Two women got pissed and said some stupid (and not all of it was) shit, they don't represent you, they're not you, and they're entitled to their own opinions. If you want to prove that Jezebel isn't a blog for airheads then stop acting like airheads and fighting and picking on each other and Moe and Tracie. Boo hoo, they don't see feminism the way, you or Gloria Steinem does, it's not the end of the world.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on British Anglicans Give Their Blessing To Female Bishops]]> Sorry, that was flippant, if the hardline conservative Anglicans move away, then who really loses in the greater scheme of things?

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on British Anglicans Give Their Blessing To Female Bishops]]> Schism away, join the Catholics, no one gives a fuck.

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> @ronaldpagan: Isn't describing something stupid that someone has said as retarded, kind of um..'retarded'?

]]>
<![CDATA[BiBiVirtue commented on Thoughts About Thinking & Drinking]]> I've only just heard about this, and watching the video is a shame. The whole thing seems to be confused, a conversation that seems to be set out as a humourous, comedy show but became incredibly serious all of a sudden, which didn't seem to suit Moe and Tracie. I am disappointed that the girls didn't switch lanes and act like the clever and interesting women that they are.

I think it's pointless to have a go at Moe for a college rape, I don't know whether I would have the strength to report a date rape at a young age. It's pointless to tear down other women for their choices, because to me that's anti-feminist, we should be supporting each other and not trying to out feminist each other.

As readers of Jezebel, we all know that Tracie's schtick is light-hearted and flippant discussion of serious topics. We may not agree with her tone sometimes, but come on ladies, we don't need to be constantly told that rape & abortion = bad. It's a fact, we know it, but the vernacular in which these topics are discussed are often stifling and outmoded. I'm not saying that rape is funny, but after reading about every day women like ourselves being raped, at home, at school, at work, on battlfields sometimes a little snarky discussions lightens the day. It doesn't diminish the horror of the act, it just provides a new way to talk about it.

The battle between First Wave feminist and The New Wave seems to me to be this...we're snarky and we're not as serious because our plights are so wrong, and if we stopped make the issue about being 'Feminists' (especially since this is an umbrella term that means different things to different people) and focus on the fact that we're all Women, things might change.

Having said all that, Moe and Tracie getting drunk before being interviewed is incredibly stupid.
