I'm very disappointed in the reaction that Gawker commenters have toward the fact that /b/ users regularly post child pornography on their boards.
Many of you are confusing apathy with blase sophistication, and callousness with common sense.
I don't know if the subject matter is so vile and disturbing that you're just shutting down and making excuse after excuse after excuse to make the whole thing go away. Or maybe it is that many of you genuinely don't give a shit and find it silly that someone else does. Or perhaps it's because there's no clear villain to be angry at. Like The Conservatives or Those Southerners. There's no clear demographic on /b/ that you instinctively feel superior to and that you can scorn as being silly or provincial or low-class. For a while you can mock the /b/ posters as nerdy virgins. But when it turns out that they're child-rape enthusiasts, I guess that makes it scary and confusing.
Well, I'm done theorizing about the reasons for your profound indifference to child rape and even your subtle sympathy and attitude of enabling.
I just don't know how relaxed you'd be about all this if it was your child in one of those horrific photos. Would you roll your eyes if someone was angry about it and shake your head in a patronizing fashion and try to get the other person to calm down and see reason if it was your child whose rape was being photographed and published all over /b/?

I remember reading a story about Kirk Douglas wherein a very sexually attractive woman, who was either just another anti-Semite or a full-on Nazi sympathizer, and him initiated mutually consensual intercourse. Douglas concealed the fact that he was Jewish. However, in the midst of coital bliss, he revealed to the woman that he was in fact a Jew and let loose some triumphal profanity at her. The woman was filled with chagrin at this unexpected turn of events. And no, she did not channel her pain into litigation.

So apart from using racial slurs against Adrian, (which because he's only Asian isn't REAL racism anyway. It's not like they used the n-word or something serious like that), violating his privacy, sexually harassing a Gawker writer's wife, harassing a female child (oohh notice a developing theme of racism and attacking women here) and justifying the harassment of the female child by saying that she asked for it because she was wearing a low-cut top (no seriously, they actually did that. Who wants to punish an 11 year old girl for somehow taunting them with her sexuality? Who even sees an 11 year old in a sexual way?) and using /b/ as a forum to exchange child pornography, I guess /b/ is just a bunch of harmless, misunderstood teenagers.
Oh and then there are cries of righteous indignation from some occasional /b/tards: The child pornography is deleted right away! We ban the users!
But they keep coming back, genius! Why does your board enable that? Why is /b/ a haven for child pornographers? What sort of toothless, useless 'banning' is this? IP-banning? or do you just ban the user name? You guys are supposed to be hacking geniuses and all that. You can't permanently rid your boards of child porn? Why don't other boards have this same problem of pesky jerks posting pics of kids getting raped? Instead of smugly sitting on your asses after having 'banned' the user, why don't you report anything to the FBI? If you really gave a shit about child porn on your boards, you'd tell the FBI right away.
But you don't. You just take down the "offending images" and 'ban' the user. Whatever the hell "ban" means.
/b/ is fundamentally indifferent to child pornography. The actions of the moderators reek of people who don't really care about the sexual abuse and violation of small children. But their actions are instead those of callous bureaucrats who're doing the bare minimum to keep law enforcement from shutting down their little child pornography hub.

Will Gawker do an expose about /b users posting child pornography on their board? Where are they getting it from? Why is the FBI looking away? Why does moot (founder of 4chan) get to travel internationally as a speaker and lecturer when child porn is regularly posted on boards that he founded? /b is a place where young American men get to view child porn uploaded from foreign servers. And for some reason, American law enforcement doesn't care.
