I've been watching Inception for about 5 days straight. Now I'm wondering if there is any correlation here.
Yes, I had a similar experience. As a young black girl in the 80's, I remember exactly where I was when I saw the video from her first single, (at least I think it was her first one) "How Will I Know." I stood frozen in front of the television set in the living room of my aunt's house in the Bronx. She was beautiful, darker than what was "acceptable" at the time for African American singers, and had an amazing grace about her, let alone a wonderful voice. She was perky and happy and glowed.

I can admit that I shed a tear on Sunday morning when I listened to the isolated track of "How Will I Know" that was posted on this site. It was the first time I'd been moved to tears by the death of any celebrity. I grew up with her, admiring her, pitying her and angry at her, as though she was a member of my family. Her death was much too soon.

It's actually quite practical. I used to be a buyer at a music store a very long time ago. The buyers had to purchase tons of backlog on aging stars. I remember when Frank Sinatra died. The jazz buyer was ready for the hoards of people who had to get their hands on every album he ever made the second he passed.
I was looking at the NYT site for a more substantive article about Romania. It was not on the homepage of the website, but the Maldives story was. I found that interesting.
My immediate reaction to the photo of Newt above is that George Clooney would look exactly like that if her starts to let himself go for the next 10 years.
That was my initial reaction as well. Nor should anyone be encouraged to possess anything containing ivory.
Really?!? You feel most sad about the dog, and the urine?!?
"Everybody Please Prepare To Have Jim Newell Back At Wonkette, Next Week" is the headline on Wonkette. "So, now that our late-night gmail conversations are public knowledge, Wonkette is very happy to announce that Jim Newell is Wonkette’s new Senior Editor at Large or whatever title we are making up, and you can expect to see his vicious and insightful prose right here, starting next week, again, and hopefully continuing on whatever level we can keep him contributing, until the End of the World, may God Have Mercy On Us All."

[wonkette.com] kinda permanent to me. But I don't know... #crosstalk

Don't get me wrong, I love Wonkette. As I mentioned in Jim's post, I have been spending a lot more time there. I just wish they posted more. I hope they do this year now that Jim and Ken are returning. Then I'll make my way up to actually creating an account. #crosstalk
So Jim, the political writer, jumps ship to go to Wonkette during a presidential election year? Something's really wrong here. #crosstalk
I see you're going to Wonkette next week Jim. Since I've been hanging out there for the last 3 months, more than I have in the last 3 years, I guess I'll be seeing a lot of you. Best of luck to you and I look forward to seeing your posts there!
It's all good. I'm celebrating too! #crosstalk

Have we discussed the fact that Paula Deen has revealed that she has Type 2 diabetes?

I'm curious why the focus of the article was the parenthesized Lana del Rey parts of the email, rather than the meat of it, which was contained in the un-parenthesized parts.
A) Please provide the information that points to the Obama White House spending millions on a party for rich celebrities? I understand exaggeration for emphasis, but in this context, it concerns me. I did a search but found no information on a party for celebrities. I only know of a Halloween party from 2009 (which was reported back in 2009- A google search claims 100+ such stories in October 2009 and one is attached [www.telegraph.co.uk]) where 2000 children were invited along with some celebrities.

B) Barack Obama is from Hawaii, one of the 50 states that make up the United States of America. So please do not insinuate that his "trips" to Hawaii are merely extravagant vacations to an exotic island in the Pacific, but understand what they really are, trips home. (And compared to the number of trips Bush made to Texas, I would not be surprised if he spent more tax payer money taking trips back home than the Obamas. Yes, I would agree that sending his family ahead of him then, joining them later cost taxpayers a lot more money than if the family had gone as one. But um, he's the president of the United States and was dealing with a stand-off with republicans, who were trying to refuse a tax-break for millions of middle-class Americans and cut off unemployment insurance. I'm willing to cut him some slack for that.

I found this quite awesome. Thanks! #crosstalk
