@BettyCrocker: "We need Keith, even if he's over the top."

It's okay when they're on our side huh? Color me unimpressed.
@keverdene: He didn't mean he knew since he was a kid that he had this particular condition. He meant that he knew since he was a kid that he might go blind some day or might not. In other words, he is making a joke at the expense of the vagueness of the diagnosis.
@Wrapitup: She hasn't denied he's a racist because the charges are of physical abuse. Her claims were made in a sworn statement for the court, not in the public interest. So I'm not sure what you're supposed to be saying. Why is she supposed to have commented either way on his racist remarks?
@BoxOfScraps: Again, you've missed the point. The crimes you cite (for the most) are committed by individuals. You are equating a religious belief system with a religious organization. No one is targeting Scientology as a belief system. The CoS is targeted by protesters because, as a matter of policy, it seeks to undermine the rights of its detractors. It is also meets the specific criteria for a cult by virtue of the way it controls it's adherents. As such it is a legitimate target of protest.

To say, 'why not Christianity?', or 'why not Islam?' is a red herring. It is the ORGANIZATION which is targeted. Were an Islamic or Christian organization that were as dominant as is the CoS within their religion to conduct themselves as does the CoS, the reaction would be the same. The only remotely comparable example I can think of is the Catholic Church and it's cover up of sexual abuses which, as you should be aware, has been the cause for a very vocal public reaction.
@BoxOfScraps: I feel you may have missed the point. People don't protest scientology. They protest the CoS, because it is an organization actively engaged in activities they consider to be criminal. That other religious organizations and individuals have historically behaved badly is irrelevant. The CoS are, in the minds of their critics, committing criminal acts right now.
The really interesting thing about super centenarians is how many of them are killed by something called amyloidosis, which entails the buildup of amyloid in their organs leading to organ failure. In other words, the normal stuff that kills the rest of us still hasn't gotten to them by the time they eventually die of this condition. Were a cure to be found there's no telling how long they might last.
@tomqvaxy: Animals that attack and kill people are rare. They typically don't view us as prey and are unaware of just how easy we are to kill. An animal that has learned that lesson should be considered more dangerous than it's fellows.
@Solomon Grundy: Hahaha. Wait, it's not 2006. Boo!
@33rd°: Secular democracies encompass the perspective of religious people.
If you have a milkshake, and I have a milkshake, and I have a straw. There it is, that's a straw, you see? You watching? And my straw reaches acrooooooossssss the room, and starts to drink your milkshake... your milkshake literally explodes all over the place.
@Bottle-Of-Smoke: Cool. Still wouldn't punch her.
@michaelmatthewmckay: Intellectually dishonest? Huh? What's intellectual about it? If I said 'no' and the answer was really 'yes' wouldn't that just be generically dishonest?

And no, I wouldn't punch her in the face.
I am beginning to think that perhaps Americans are too accommodating of authority. It seems to be written into the national DNA. So many rationalizations being offered in order to excuse the inexcusable.

I'm not sure what's to discuss though really. You don't punch a teenage girl in the face. I think that's pretty straightforward.
@RobotRollCall: Awwww yeah. That's awesome.
@A Piece of the Continent: Whoah. At least we both used the exact quote. Unlike the rest of these amateurs!
@Mount_Prion: Wow. This place is great! When can we move in? You gotta try this pole. I'm gonna get my stuff. Hey. We should stay here. Tonight. Sleep here. You know, to try it out.
@RobotRollCall: OMG is your avatar what I think it is? "Flames... Flames..."
