There is no fucking way PaulieD makes 50k a gig. Tiesto with his full stage show and acrobats and light show guys is about 50k. PaulieD *might* make $5k/gig. (and even then, he's fucking terrible.) 50k would get you Tiesto DJ'ing, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), Oakenfold, and Tenaglia, combined, on New Year's Eve. The only way he could pull down 50k for one of his "sets" is if he played for some Saudi oil sheik's yacht party and blowjobs were included.
@92BuickLeSabre: the lighting is completely different! The lighting in the behind the scenes shots accentuate her bones because they're causing shadows, just like around her thighs. They're using a ring flash that causes shadows and or brightness from angles that aren't straight forward.

Nice work Jezebel on this post: [jezebel.com]

My reply: http://jezebel.com/comment/36572857/

The photos Jez is using for comparison are "behind-the-scenes" photos taken from different angles and therefore different lighting. The photoshopped out her bones? How can you tell, when you're comparing a completely different production image? That's just lame. Yeah photoeditors use a lot of photoshop, but the bigger manipulation is straight up using a different picture for reference.

Bang-up job.

Nice try. These are behind the scenes photos that you're comparing with the finished photoshopped ads. They're taken from different angles, from a camera that's not producing what's going in to the finished product. You can see that the photographer for the "behind-the-scenes" photos is standing to the left of the main camera if you click through the gallery on the MTV site. On all of the photos posted here on the left, did anyone wonder why she's not looking in to the camera? Its because these are NOT used to make the ads. Since they are taken at different angles and therefore different lighting its going to be a different result. Putting up a "behind-the-scenes" photo (that looks similar) next to a finished product is totally cheating.

Yeah, complain about photoshop all you want, but the person writing and selecting these images is far more manipulative. Look for yourself.
@thegrandinquisitor: do you have any CS skills prior? PHP is kinda easy, its intuitive, for a programming lang. Concrete shouldn't be much of a problem, if you can screw around with wordpress pretty well. I'd go out and get a like, "Learn PHP in 21 easy lessons" type book, an Oreilly PHP book (i.e. PHP&MySQL) and start with the opening chapters then try fucking around with projects you download from sourceforge. Be honest and say "I don't know much PHP" but if you look like you're going to get hired and be ravenous and learn the language in a matter of days, you probably can get hired. You can totes learn PHP in like a month, two weeks might be stretching it.

Google has decided to collaborate with a bunch of world-famous art galleries to put high res images of their works online.

@butimaheiressto: living well. Go out tonight, don't sit at home crying on your keyboard. If anything, it'll make the person you broke up with jealous, and that's just revenge points for you.

@PandaRobots: No. I have to be friends with someone (or at least meet them in real life) before I decide to spend the energy in trying to date someone. A lot of people don't get it, but that's okay. I'm not going to read two self-written paragraphs and decide to let someone be that intimate in my life just off of that basis.

@AraRichards: The government has military networks that will remain active even if every router connected to the internet disappears. Critical systems will still be able to communicate. Sorry about the "uh," I was dumbstruck with your comment that people will somehow still be able to get online with a "kill-switch" in the on position. How exactly will that happen?

@Mothergooch: oh, what's up dude, back online I see! Yeah, a large route to Asia goes from Italy - Egypt - Saudi Arabia and its put a bunch of pressure of Asian routes.

@Canadian: The computer chip has a set of instructions. Different chips have different instruction sets. When you have a programming language, you aren't typing in a set of 1's and 0's, a compiler takes the language i.e. C, and compiles it in to a set of 1's and 0's that are readable by the computer chip and then it runs. Computer languages all have a compiler which translates a set of say C code, in to machine language. The more "lower level" a language the more it interfaces with the chip. For instance, Visual Basic compiles its input in to code that is read by windows, but Assembly compiles and it is read by the chip. Assembly is therefore much "lower level' than Visual Basic

By now you're probably aware that Egypt is offline. The TOR project is raising funds to bring network equipment in to Egypt to set up darknets and proxies. Donate here: [secure.avaaz.org]

A French ISP is offering free dial-up access to Egyptians. [blog.fdn.fr]

Instructions on how to use your mobile phone as a dial-up modem: [manalaa.net]

More dial-up numbers, and fax numbers (send the info in a fax to Egypt) [piratenpad.de]

An org called "We Rebuild" is publishing faxes sent from Egypt, online. They're also sending out info on dial-up access numbers and are working to get people communications. [interfax.werebuild.eu]

The We Rebulid communique is interesting: [interfax.werebuild.eu]

Finally something that you can do at home to help spread info. Set up Tor. When Egypt comes back online there's a lot of worry that there will be a lot of censorship. Running a Tor proxy on your computer will allow someone to bypass such censorship. These are simple instructions on how to set up Tor. [www.accessnow.org]

If you know someone who is a HAM operator, they're relaying a lot of messages to and from Egypt. There's no point in posting any info cause if you're a HAM you have been up for the last five days sending morse code.
