Wait, also, re Wurtzel, I don't really relate to her that much, I just feel sorta bad because she went to Harvard and worked at the New Yorker when she was like seventeen and like, I dunno, I feel like that's just no way to start a career! I didn't read her really until I was researching the pharmaceutical industry for this documentary project this one time, and I felt like it had stunted her. What I do is SO much healthier and life-affirming, you know. In any case, I was not trying to say I related to her so much as I was saying I thought everyone who has ever been depressed in New York can probably relate to her.

I thought you and ADismalScience made very good points about Emily. I hope I wasn't too harsh -- I cited, with a small modification, some advice her grandfather gave her five months ago, which of course she shared. I've always found her rather irritating and self-indulgent. Depending on when it suited her, she would play the mean girl or the wounded young innocent. It made my head spin. None of the other Gawker editors consistently presented themselves as a special case. I thought the comments on the NYT site were relatively mild, considering. Think of the comments the NYT editors must have held back.
