I find the excessive flattery embarrassing. For a loon like Paula Abdul to use words like 'genius' and 'brilliant' every week - basically giving Adam Lambert entry to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame right now - it just further exposes the show's flaws.
I think many of the performers are talented and might have a career post-Idol, but I'd never dare put these folks in the same category as some of music's greatest stars.
Every time Paula tells someone they're brilliant and starts crying because she thinks she's witnessing the second-coming of Prince or Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston I just laugh b/c she's a fucking joke - and that's a fact.

exaggerated praise to mediocre singers is standard practice (awful as it is), but paula abdul throwing adam lambert in the mix with mick jagger and steven tyler is shameful. i know she's the show idiot, but that was just terribly pathetic to hear from her - medicated or not.
