<![CDATA[hugomania commented on Parsing Sex Talk: Ladies, We Need a New Schtick]]> agree with lustylady: regina lynn writes well about all things sex, and she's done it for years. of course, she's a REAL journalist who researches the topics for which she covers. unlike all the wannabe sex "writers" with a computer she actually knows what sex/sexuality means, and it's sure more than threesomes and sex toys.

]]>
<![CDATA[hugomania commented on Parsing Sex Talk: Ladies, We Need a New Schtick]]> for the most part, today's sex columns are not being written by legitimates in the field, rather by anyone and everyone with an opinion on sex. seems everyone's an expert but the real sexperts.

<![CDATA[hugomania commented on One More Place Not To Live]]> @kellimanjaro: it sounds like fi-dee and for those of us who live down here, it rhymes with hap-py.

those of us who ACTUALLY LIVE DOWN HERE don't give a hoot about what anyone says who doesn't. and why? because we enjoy quieter nights and weekends; we've outgrown the ridiculous desire to eat, drink and party with everyone else who looks just like us so as to "see and be seen"; and we love charming cobblestone streets, seaport sunrises, battery park promenade sunsets, new wine bars/lounges and restaurants designed for us local residents, and neighbors who respect each other, rarely complain about stupid things and don't throw up on our streets/doorsteps after a night out pretending to be "cool." we don't miss loud sirens, honking taxis, loud wannabes, blasting stereos, rude neighbors, and the crowds.

]]>
<![CDATA[hugomania commented on Upchuck]]> Why is it the word "colorful" always brings sex to mind. Perhaps he edits in crayon? Has a rainbow flag hidden somewhere in his apartment? Or wears pastel socks and briefs? Regardless, must we really care to learn who he is? Me, not so much.

<![CDATA[hugomania commented on 5WPR Argues Its Case]]> @TheNewsBlack: "Seriously, how can you claim to be PR experts when you don't understand the most basic elements of reporting? I AGREE; these guys obviously have no knowledge of the working press or how true journalism works. AND "This just highlights everything that is wrong with PR people today..." I DISAGREE, in part.

5W is just one small agency not a representation of PR firms or professionals worldwide. I've worked in the industry for over 25 years and I have earned a solid reputation with the press for earnest work w/out b.s., providing journalists with the information they want, when they need it. And I'm talking hard news, not planting Page Six items. There's a big difference between public relations and PUBLICITY, of which I believe 5W falls can be labelled the later from the looks of his work this past year. Not once have I ever been told the agency was hired for strategic media planning, blue chip crisis communications, et al... they seem to throw a bunch of promotional spaghetti against the wall hoping something sticks.

<![CDATA[hugomania commented on Old Men To Blame For Everything, Again]]> A lifelong Today Show viewer, I switched to CBS Early Show and Harry Smith a while back because Katie Couric just got tiresome. If I had to listen to one more of her signature remarks like "He's a hottie!" I was gonna puke. In truth, I never questioned her ability to report hard news, just how Les Moonves' and his network foot soldiers made her report it. I just couldn't take Katie seriously any longer, wearing barely there skirts, high spiked heels, and a forever impish grin reporting news like, "A second IED exploded today in Iraq today, killing 20 US troops and....."

<![CDATA[hugomania commented on Katie Couric Can Only Host Debates About After-School Snacks]]> @nowmedusa: the majority of school foods are nut-free due to peanut allergies common in children.

now re: the vah-jay-jays, wouldn't we be a kinder, gentler nation if everyone had one. the majority of men tend often to exhibit symptoms of PMS (think the world's wars, Karl Rove v. Democrats, or even MTV's Jackass), while a minority of pere-menapausal women go ballistic each month, if that. sure, you see a major catfight every now and then (a Filene's bridal sale for example, but at a low $99 can you blame 'em?), but "mano a mano"(sp?)is not the female way of life. as far as katie not getting close to the debates, it is and always has been a boy's club, a testosterone-driven nation, a man's world, for the most part. not even indira ghandi, margaret thatcher, or Oprah have changed that.

<![CDATA[hugomania commented on Goldman Sachs Cafeteria Workers Feel Especially Poor]]> @Da5idRicardo: all unions are not created equal. and i'm not talking union pay scales nationwide, which by the way are quite diverse, even in the same-job capacity. what i meant was that some benefits the union touts pay less towards, say, health benefit coverage than Wall Street firms. and what's with the quote Western Union-style end quote text question mark. full stop.

<![CDATA[hugomania commented on Goldman Sachs Cafeteria Workers Feel Especially Poor]]> @schmerd re: card check neutrality - since observing Unite Here and local union activists in action at workplaces nationwide, exmployee "X's" on the dotted union line often are, well, dishonest, considering many of these workers cannot read nor are they fully aware of the ramifications of their vote for union signature (e.g. some union workers actually receive less in health benefit monies than originally provided by their non-union employers). while i agree 100% that there is an outrageous inequality of an average $660K v.$21K salary in our "compassionate" society, wouldn't it be more humanly gracious and, perhaps, even more honest for Goldman Sachs, PriceWaterhouseCooper and Citigroup to give these workers the raises they deserve?
