I flagged the rick perry anti-gay ad as hate speech. Not sure if youtube cared, but i certainly felt better.
It really is a nightmare! I live in NY, so luckily I feel at least decently represented here...and yet I still find myself with no one to really vent to... I just can't fathom how these laws are passing, and how f-ing Chris Chritie can veto a gay marriage bill, just because he wants future votes. I don't even believe he is personally against gay marriage. It just feels like such a dick move. Ugh the game of "politics" is ruining our country.
I know.. it's a difficult situation because it's my family, and I can't completely write them off just because they're conservative. We just can't have conversations about politics or any issue at all. The worst part is it's mostly from my sister in law, who is just straight up sheltered. I don't think she's a "bad" person..I literally think she just doesn't know any better. Which means there's little chance of "enlightening" her. So here I am, venting away. Glad to know there are like minded people somewhere at least!!
This isn't specific to this post, but I am having a terrible day and thinking about all of this seriously makes me want to scream. And I want to make my thoughts public, but I try really really really hard to not get political on things like FB because my family is very conservative.

I just do not understand how things have gotten so incredibly backwards all of a sudden. Being from VA, and seeing my home state create horrible anti-women legislation has brought me to the edge. If anyone knows of any groups/protests/campaigns/petitions going around, please drop me a link!
Also...it makes my head explode that all of this time and energy is being spent debating fucking birth control when the Republicans voted to DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD WHICH PROVIDED PEOPLE LOW COST BIRTH CONTROL! Maybe if they hadn't done that, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

It feels terrible being female right now.

/end rant.

Glad they're wasting so much time with these bills and debates when they should be figuring out what the fuck is going on with the state of public education, something that actually matters. This is so embarrassing. I'm mortified to come from this state. Thank god i got out.
People hate on Taylor Swift, but the girls a decent song writer (barring the multiple literary inaccuracies in "love song") and her voice seems to really have matured. I'm glad she's still in the game and hope people start to give her more of a chance.
Agreed. I seriously worry for Lindsay, and other celebs that at so obviously struggling. A dear friend of mine died as the result of drug use, and I will never see it as just "bad behavior" that we should all stare at and ridicule. Once you really know where it can lead, you see it differently.
I think what we all love about them is that they just seem so darn contemporary! They don't ever seem (to me) like they're posing for these shots.. it seems natural. I personally find that highly attractive in the person I want running the country.
That is an excellent, excellent point. I'm already not a fan of Madonna, and this confirms that feeling. So phony.
I have a friend who worked briefly in an S&M dungeon (for real!) as a dominatrix, and she has said that a large number of clients were Ultra Orthodox Jews. I would venture to say its for the exact reasons you mentioned. Sexual repression never leads to anything good.
It's pretty mind boggling. My sister-in-law, an Evangelical Christian who has now had two lovely beautiful children result from unplanned pregnancies (the second quite soon after the first because, whoops! that happens when you're breast feeding and don't take birth control!) told me she would not get an IUD to prevent a potential third pregnancy because it (like many other BCs, she may not realize) reduces the uterine lining thereby preventing an egg from attaching, and that if an egg was to get fertilized and not attach, this would be tantamount, in her opinion, to abortion.

So, that's one reason. I think another reason is that people equate sex ed and easily available birth control to encouraging young people to have pre-marital sex, which a) is ridiculous, and b) doesn't matter because young people, even religious ones, have sex. lots of sex. and then there are lots of unwanted pregnancies. And then there are abortions. The cycle continues.

The thing is, when you're in the military you're trained to be disciplined to the point that you do not allow emotions to get in the way of rational thought in times like that. That goes for men and women. Saying that women are too emotional for combat is like implying they can't handle the training they've received the way men can. Also, romantic interests really shouldn't come into play for anyone due to rules against fraternization.
I'm sure being forced into it he picked up a lot naturally. After spending a week in Paris a few years ago I was actually able to hold conversations with people far beter than my 3 years of high school French should have allowed. He would have had to try really hard not to. But good for him...he's adorable, and hilarious in this clip.
Pretty sure in a pre-awards show craziness profile in NYMag he was talking about how couldn't be big Hollywood star because he didn't want to learn English. Looks like he's doing pretty well!
Its terrible either way.. if he did do this, and got away with it, it's awful. However, he will always be known as a man who was accused of rape, regardless of whether he did it or not.
It is, in fact, based on the book.
Me. Too. and I get so annoyed, cause I just want a little tiny bit of smoothing, and I get nothing. And those things are expensive! I think I actually look bigger with Spanx on if that's possible.
Ha. This is my standard station, and I see this guy a lot. I typically do not give money to anyone (prefer to go through proper channels, call me jaded NYer) and I almost did this time. Almost.
It is worth it. And much cheaper through a Canadian pharmacy online.. not joking. I think mine was around $300 instead of $800. Don't even get me started on how it's not covered by insurance... the math of it all is just ridiculous.
Agreed. Most people that are super high maintenance and sensitive would never allow something like that to be made public. I think it's adorable. And hilarious.
