As part of the merger did some Comcast exec insist that his "hip" daughter be put in charge of the SNL musical booking? Or do they just use some sort of algorithm from Tumblr data now? I mean, I guess I'll put up with some Lana Del Rey and Karmin in exchange for some Robyn and Sleigh Bells.
Which is why it would maybe a surprise? I mean people might be surprised that he's even a nominee.
The poor writing staff at 30 Rock. How are they ever gonna get Avery Jessup out of there now?
#4 - I'm going to go with Demián Bichir. He probably wasn't expecting the nomination at all, and if the fact he had a baby last year out of a "brief relationship" is any indication, kind of sounds like a horn dog.
I don't think she's actually that interested in being super famous. In fact, I think she's having a lot of fun continually ruining any of her chances to be mainstream famous.
Here we have like the only woman of color with origins in the Eastern third world who's achieved some sort of pop culture relevance, and the media wrings their hands trying to "figure her out" with their nice little liberal arts educations while she apparently gets a bit of pleasure of purposely fucking with that. Her feelings on the Tamil are clearly wrapped up with her relationship and feeling for her father, and lets be honest, no one really makes sense when it comes to their daddy issues, but for some reason we demand that she does. We berate her for being in a relationship with a rich dude and apparently now write her off as a "millionaire" despite the fact she grew up in public housing in a shitty are of London. We want her to be responsible for all the questions we have about her, with out asking why we're asking them in the first place or why it is we're uncomfortable with her. We're basically all saying to MIA "please make white westerners feel comfortable and wrap yourself up in a nice little bow"

Meanwhile, the music critics have canonized white male punk rockers with shitty attitudes and messy politics.

That's usually more true of comedy shows, though where overreaching plotlines aren't usually that important. I guess what Moylans saying is that these plot heavy shows should try to, you know, wow us with plot in the early parts.
those seems like strong terms for us to all agree to "at the very least"
I'm pretty sure it was a "shhh! and not a "shit!" much like the version that was playing on the radio all weekend, and is it entirely possible M.I.A. just really had no idea that you can't throw up a middle finger in puritanical America?

Can we just all agree that someone extending their middle finger is actually not really obscene at all on any level? Can we at least get that out of this?

It was fantastic. Now, I can't wait for Lady Gaga's halftime show at Super Bowl 67 between the Los Angeles Jaguvikes and the Miami Dolphins (lead by a lab produced Dan Marino clone).
Graydon Carter? More like Graydon Farter.
Adam Rapoport? More like Adam Rapooport.
Amy Astley? More like Amy Ass-tley.
Stefano Tonchi? More like Step-in-poo Tonshi.
David Remnick? More like David Rimdick.
Considering she's been exclusively playing some variation of Carrie Bradshaw for the past decade and a half its probably just shocking to see her in makeup as an actual non-Carrie character. If this was Meryl Streep we'd just be thinking, "Oh that Meryl, such a cinematic chameleon, and such a brave choice to play Gloria Steinem as partially Asian."
Eh, I'd rather have watch 10 minutes of Letterman's monologue every night than wade through a bunch of Tweets by Twitter comedians all day. Plus, Letterman is the only place on TV right now where we get to semi-regularly see Amy Sedaris at her best.
You know, at this rate, if we're going to run all of our female major label singers through the "authenticity test" I'm pretty sure they only person left standing is going to be Gwen Stefani. She started off as an Orange County girl who liked clothes and singing songs that are basically diary entries and remains an Orange County girl who likes (better) clothes and singing songs that are basically diary entries.
Golly gee. I think you're basing your entire perception of her based off of one video. It's not like she runs around in pig tails (which aren't actually even pigtails) and vintage Mickey Mouse sweaters (which comes off more hipster to me) all day everyday. Do a Google image search.

This video was also shot before she had a major label record deal. She probably put together her own look, which isn't exactly "deliberately pitched."

Yes, I think this has become much more the issues than the original hoard of hipsters (who coincidentally most likely share her lack of self awareness) harping about her authenticity. It's not even so much that her image is something of a gimmick, its just a really stupid gimmick that is pulled off so badly you can't help but think about the very fact it is a gimmick.

I mean look at Gaga. She's more of a creation than anything in pop right now, but at least she can pull it off with a wink and a smile.

true, but they might be the dorks who get the most beejs.
So, just to be clear, you're of the school of thought that just because a woman happens to be wearing braids in a video her lyrics should be held to a higher moral standard than that of her male peers?
OH NO! A woman who happened to decide to wear her hair in pigtails during the day of her videoshoot and raps about blowjobs is ruining the world! Downfall of modern day communication!
As a gay who has watched this video 239 times I found myself sort of falling in love with said nerdy boy, only to realize later he's up and coming house producer Jacques Greene. Do DJs really count as nerds? Would the world realizing that the nerd is a DJ prompt some sort of Lana Del Rey-ish backlash?

Or, is it somehow possible that perhaps people on the internet sometimes like female musicians/singers/rapper for reasons other than oral sex fantasies?
