As a white liberal NYer, I'm ashamed to admit it, but if my son hasn't figured it on his own, I'm going to sit him down and tell him that packs of black teenagers are trouble. You don't have to go around being a white supremacist, waving your flag, etc. -- just leave them alone and sit somewhere else on the bus.
I can't do anything about the shameful institution of slavery, or Jim Crow laws, or discrimination. And I've tried to keep an open mind for 41 years. But as an adult if I see trouble I cross the street or change subway cars. No sense getting shot for stepping on someone's white sneakers. That's called self-preservation and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
For all the progress made in civil rights, even to the point of electing an African-American President (for whom I voted, BTW) there exists a permanent underclass of criminal blacks who have no interest in schools, careers, or being a member of society. It's all about street cred, Air Jordans, video games, and making it in the field of illegal drugs and/or rap. Since you can't reason with these thugs, all you can do is avoid them. That's all I'm saying. I want my son to come home from school alive.
Finally, as I said in my comment, the location didn't really matter at all. I was pointing out an error in Gawker's original post. Gawker was trying to connect Obama-Drudge-Serena somehow. But on second thought it's just too bad more youths (black or white) don't get inspired by Obama's incredible example.

First, it happened in Illinois (i.e., Obama's home state), not Utah. Not that it makes much of a difference. Violence like this id despicable.
I guess this is what white people get for trying to raise "color blind" children in a post-racial society. You bite your tongue and tell them that black kids are not all gangsters and savages and you send them off to public school and hope for the best.
Had the races of the involved parties been reversed, we all know the media ****storm coming to Belleville Ill., but since that won't happen in this case, Drudge gave it the outrage it deserves.

I dread suit shopping, and totally struck out at Macys, but I found a perfectly good Billy London suit at JCPenney in the Queens Center mall on super sale for $135. Not only was it surprisingly clean, but they have all the same stuff as every other store, Izod, etc.

The Democrats just gave McCain a new round of ammo with this concert. Babs is the stereotypical Clinton-era limousine liberal that destroyed Kerry. She's entitled to her opinion and her blogging, and her donations, but to sing at a $30,000 per person Hollyweird dinner + concert is playing into the GOP's hands. Can't believe a guy as savvy as BHO would sign on for this.
Last week Gawker said 99% of Americans were dumb and deserved the leaders we elect. To be fair, it's only 51%.
