I think you are right. It seems the stigma comes from the damn "indie" term itself. We need a new term or something. Indie is dead. Folks gotta eat. Nuff said.
I've spent my time as a music journalist, too and I feel you. My bro in law was on Atlantic for years ,,, and let me tell you ... laugh all you want at a one hit wonder with "just" a platinum standing, but it (can, if you don't snort it all) pays the bills for a looooong time.
Different strokes for different bands.
