College was great (maybe because I wasn't a journalist), but I could really use an "It Gets Better" for twentysomething journalists. Except it probably doesn't get better. Oof.
I remember this girl from freshman year. Everything at the beginning of college is so bizarre that I just completely took her in stride, same as the four NYU suicides that year or the boy who lived in the library.
No one is making any sustainable money off porn anymore. Seriously, do you for porn? And much of that porn you watch costs money to produce, and everyone knows that the advertising rates for porn are just atrocious. (Notice how little moot makes off of 4chan's large traffic.) And you know who's doing even worse than online porn companies? The legacy print titles.
Still, there is precedent for a money-losing site merging with a money-losing magazine. This is apparently especially desirable to a certain sort of very rich, very old man who spent much of his life in Southern California and owns a print magazine. I'll see you Newsbeast, and raise you Playboy's Salon.
Yeah, no mention of Penn and Cornell, even though they're clearly the two most awful Ivies. For example, it's hilarious that the Dunning-Kruger effect comes out of Cornell, because everyone there is an imbecile who thinks he's a genius.
@Blackballs: Oh yeah, because immigration reform with an amnesty component is a key piece of conservative dogma. Our current right-wingers are *worse* than he was.
"Overlord"? Doesn't an overlord have to be alive? (I'll give an exception to Kim Il Sung.) Nick Denton is frequently referred to as "Gawker overlord." Does this mean that he's been dead for the last six years, and senile for the past 24? Perhaps "icon" is the word you're looking for.
@the rzo: To clarify: yes, it's almost certainly bullshit. But as long as you expressed some doubt, it would still be good for 100K uniques, which is really all the Big Guy cares about.
Totally shocked you haven't already done a post on this [thechive.com] seeing as it's been a trending topic on Twitter for hours, and Jezebel did so *astonishingly* well reposting viral content last month.
Oh, so it's okay to stalk some website moguls, provided you don't try to ice them? If I'd stalked Zuckerberg instead of a certain British bloglord, he not only would have known about icing, but in fact would have ice blocked me.
