Prince Rogers Nelson, one of the greatest musicians in world history, has died at the age of 57, his publicist has confirmed. In a statement given to KTLA she said:
“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said in a brief statement.
TMZ first reported the story this afternoon.
An earlier report stated that police had responded to an emergency call at Prince’s Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota at 9:43 a.m, at which point a fatality was discovered.
Last week, Prince was hospitalized with the flu after a plane he was riding in was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois. But a day after, his official Twitter account posted a flyer for a dance party at Paisley Park, and he was apparently spotted riding his bike around Chanhassen.
UPDATE (3:40 p.m.) Per the Carver County Sherrif’s office, Prince was found dead in an elevator at Paisley Park.
We’ll update this post as more information is released.
