    @Banjo-Sea Kitten: My gay-guy megagaydar doesn't either. It's San Francisco: would his being gay have had a negative or a positive impact on his chances of becoming mayor? Methinks the latter. Also, if he were a closet case someone would have outed him looooong ago, if only for bragging rights.

    I think that being around Damian Lewis makes you more fertile. First Sarah Shahi gets up the stick, and now Jennifer Seibel. When on-set security finds me and escorts me away from the Magic Ginger himself, I'm going to tell them that I was trying to up my chances of conception.

    I like and admire Gavin immensely. I lived in SF for 5 years, and however much people want to carp, I think he's more than all right. His stance of gay marriage was sincere and courageous, I think, long before Prop. 8. His personal problems and foibles make me like him more, not less. I realize people have divergent opinions on him, and how he's run that city, but I find him good hearted and rather dashing.

    @Baroness: Yes! I am a Bay Area native and have always loved him. I don't really care that he cheated (he was going through a divorce anyway).


    My grandma is very very old and has lived in SF her entire life. She is absolutely obsessed with him; her fridge has a bunch of Newsom articles arranged on it, and she still tells us about the time she met him and he was "so handsome in person". Its adorable.

    @its_a_feature: Ok, no, it doesn't. But the guy was going through a tough time so I will give him a little bit more slide than I otherwise maybe would have. I wasn't trying to excuse it.


    Like Baroness said, his personal troubles haven't made me like him any less - its made him more human and relatable.

    @schmalerie: Ignore the haters: it's all gossip. No one can "ruin" another's marriage. I love SF, but when it comes to politics, it's full of poseurs who gossip like fishwives.

    @Baroness: Yeah thats kinda my thinking on it as well. People can blame him for knowingly having an affair with a coworker's wife, which is understandably sleazy, but I don't think he's to blame for ruining the marriage. She had a hand in it as well...


    All in all, Newsom is just an everydude who isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in politically, and that's why I've always admired him.

    @schmalerie: don't care for the whole "rehab" thing after the affair, but I DO like that I can now park in front of my driveway without getting a ticket. He was a big proponent of that for quite some time.

    I've always loved Gavin, despite his faux paus. I'm heartened that a handsome straight man who came from a hardscrabble childhood, can be so gay-friendly. This is a good thing.


    Kimberly Guilefoyle, on the other hand, scares me a little.

    @propertius elegist of unstable icons: It's a weird hybrid of fairly high profile parents mixed with a divorce that made for hard financial times. This is copied and pasted from wiki...so make of it what you will.
