I love how the describe the snake as "in good health."

I'm no herpetologist, but aren't snakes pretty much either healthy or dead?

You know, I've been described as 'easy, an ideal beginner's snake. Hardy, tolerant of handling.'

Far better than being a cold-hearted snake who don't play by rules.

Considering that possum sightings been mentioned in two recent issues of New York magazine, I find this amusing and consistent.

One day I heard a funny noise in my bathroom. I lifted the toilet lid, only to have a wet rat jump at me. I wish I'd had that snake!

The children were overreacting out of the excitement and anticipation of the new Harry Potter movie. They told the police officers that an evil man had sneaked their home in the form of a snake and was listening to their secrets.

Don't mess with the black ones, either. Our yard snake (for the last nine years) occasionally goes into our attic, eats mice, and sheds his skin. Which is now over four feet long.

Snakes have their purposes. And keeping our vole population out of our damned pool is one of them. I hate fishing those nasty little things out.

Rat snakes are very popular on farms and in rural areas, so much so that they winter in the attics of houses and it's considered bad luck (and bad pest control mangement)to disturb them. Good snakey.

@Rumpelstilskin: Yessir, indeed. I grew up in a rural area, and we got really pissed when a family moved into town and made a point of killing all the rat snakes on their property. Then they found out why we don't kill the rat snakes, because a bunch of copperheads took up residence on their property to eat the abundance of rodents that had been previously eaten by the rat snakes.
