I've never quite understood how ABOUT.COM makes money. Is About.com profitable in, like, Flooz dollars, circa 1999? It can't possibly make actual money for the Gray Lady.
I’ve always found it a strange site. It tells how to write a business letter in French, gives recipes for enchiladas or soufflé, and offers a concise history of Western music. Evidently it’s original content (for the most part ?) though editorially way uneven.
Hopefully whoever or whatever is interested in About.com will get the full picture on the $100mm lawsuit against it... kind of makes it unattractive to buyers, no?

about.com has more than twice as many unique visitors per month as nytimes.com - and more actual monthly visits.

Can we just agree that New York City (and, by extension, Gawker) has had way more than enough of Calacanis and let him sink into California obscurity?

About.com isn't a search engine, it's a reference site.
