It's not selling out until there's a Mountain Dew commercial.

I'm just happy Afrika Bambaataa is getting some cash flow. Common deserves cheers for convincing a bunch of execs who probably never heard of dude to pay out.

It's just our generation's turn. That said, can you imagine Rage Against The Machine schilling cars?

Hamilton, didn't you work for an advertising trade publication? Why such a beef with advertising?

Mssrs. Method and Red were shilling Mystic Cooler back in like '97 and I didn't hear one peep out of you.

Also delicious and promoted by those two, St. Ides Flavored Brew... anyone know if they still make it? I figured by now they have to had bring down the lethal levels of red 5 in the Passionberry flavor by now.

I didn't work here in 97, @slainte_pants. That might be why.

And @Pope John Peeps II, I worked at a PR trade. Advertising as it relates to hip hop is just a sad thing, that's it.

@Hamilton Nolan: ooh pr. Well, I don't know... can you name a media that doesn't rely on advertising? Why would hip hop be any different? I mean sure it's hypocritical, but the better question is why would it not be hypocritical?

@Pope John Peeps II: Well the music industry is not the same as the media. On a macro level the problem is the music industry's business model is failing and it's turning to advertising for revenue, where in the past artists didn't necessarily need to do that. But generally it's just sad to see artists you liked turn into salesmen, regardless of the reason.

@slainte_pants: Oh, St. Ides. Kept Nate Dogg on the scene just a wee second longer.

@Hey_mikey: This is a slightly messy point but, generally speaking, I hear you. I hate hypocrisy but I'm starting to find some 'sell out' talk a little pissy. Common deserves the criticism, though.
