    @Hockeymom: Lutheran priests can be married, as can Eastern Catholic priests. Also, I think that if a Roman Catholic priest is married before he enters the seminary, that he is permitted to remain married.

    I am the least snobby person on the planet--I met my husband at Coney Island High on St. Mark's Place and I got married in an Italian joint in the Paulus Hook section of Jersey City--but there is no excuse EVER to get marred in flip-flops.

    Methinks these two folks in recovery may not have had the big bucks to buy fancy shoes for their nuptials. I realize that today's subjects/writer have pedigrees and tasteful cash up the wazoo, but most of us hoi polloi, recovered and not, are feeling the affects of our soured economy. I hope these two can make it, especially for the sake of their sweet-faced girl. I know I'm being unironic, but this Yale M.A. grad (who thinks New Haven is a depressing hole) thinks their story is a big ole breath of fresh air.

    @JeanneNarea: Yes, I don't really care about fancy overpriced wedding shoes, I know we're in a recession, etc., but "shoes" is the key word here: shoes, not flipflops--which render you practically barefoot. Seeing as she's also pregnant, it's not such a cute combo, IMHO.
